History

History of the Erie Commodores

Over the last 17 years Commodores have been one of the most successful teams in the National Premier Soccer League. The Erie Franchise was founded in 2009, Regional and national recognition quickly followed. In the first 6 seasons, the team owned and coached by John Melody was 52-11-7, winning 4 Conference titles (‘09, ‘11, ‘12 & ‘13), 3 Regional titles (‘09, ‘11, ‘13) which also resulted in 3 Final Four appearances.

Melody was again at the helm in 2017 & 2018 winning another Conference Title and serving another US Open Cup bid where after a first round victory over Rochester, Commodores were defeated in the second round by the USL1 Professional team, Pittsburgh Riverhounds. 

Coming off of the 2025 season, Commodores played arch rivals Cleveland SC with the winner advancing to Conference Playoffs. A convincing win of 2-0 saw the Commodores back into the playoffs.

A trip to Flower City Union resulted in an overtime loss ended in what was an overall successful season. The highlight was being undefeated at Home all season. Commodores are again on the rise!

The Commodores have been one of the most successful teams in the NPSL. Commodores have won 6 Conference Championships, 3 Regional Championships, Played in 2 National Semi Finals and the National Championship Game in the Inaugural Season!
