Great Lakes Conference Leaders Meet in Battle of Lake Erie
Erie Commodores FC earned a 2-0 victory over Cleveland SC in a weather-
interrupted match, remaining undefeated and extending their lead at the top of the NPSL and the Great Lakes Conference standings.

The matchup featured the top two teams in the Great Lakes Conference, with Erie Commodores FC traveling to Cleveland to face Cleveland SC. Entering the match, the teams were ranked first and fourth nationally in the NPSL rankings, adding further significance to the conference standings.
Erie started the match positively, combining to create several early opportunities. The Commodores controlled much of the possession and attacking play through the opening stages. In the 24th minute, shortly before an Erie corner kick, lightning and heavy rain moved into the area, prompting to suspend play. Both teams left the field during the weather delay, and the match did not resume until hours later, with play restarting at 11 p.m.
When the game resumed, play became more direct, with both teams looking to capitalize on transition opportunities. In the 42nd minute, Cleveland earned a corner kick, but Erie quickly turned defense into attack. After winning possession deep in his own half, Rikito Takeuchi carried the ball forward before striking from distance to give the Commodores a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Erie continued to control possession in the second half despite the difficult playing
conditions. The Commodores limited Cleveland’s opportunities to build sustained
attacks while creating several chances of their own.
The second goal came in the 63rd minute from a set piece. After Erie earned a corner
kick, Mathieu Beuvain met the delivery at the back post and headed the ball across
goal, where Julián Tovar directed a header into the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
The final 10 minutes with Cleveland looking for a result, saw them have some sustained pressure creating a few chances and striking the post with a great strike from distance.
Despite the tough conditions Alan Horrocks handled the pressure and the ball extremely well to help preserve the shutout.
The result moved Erie to 7-0-0 while keeping the Commodores undefeated in NPSL play. Erie will return home at Saxon Stadium at Mercyhurst University for its next match on Saturday, June 13th vs. Flower City Union at 7pm.
